Win a Signed Copy of The Old Fashioned, By Robert Simonson!

Renown New York Times cocktail writer, Robert Simonson, recently paid Tulsa, Oklahoma a visit to be a guest judge for Philbrook’s MIX fundraising event. He also found time to conduct a session (hosted by Valkyrie) on his new book, The Old-Fashioned: The Story of the World’s First Classic Cocktail, with Recipes and Lore. If you’re a cocktail enthusiast you may have come across his work in Wine Enthusiast, GQ, Imbibe, or Wine Advocate. His book is nothing less than thorough, yet it’s an enjoyable read that you will breeze through.

Simonson begins with a story sharing the significance of the old fashioned to him personally, then transitions to an extensive history spanning from the birth of the whiskey cocktail to the modern cocktail renaissance. Once the old fashioned is properly re-established as the unadulterated classic cocktail it is intended to be, the book dives into a collection of respectable modern twists on the old fashioned. In addition to great writing, the pages are filled with beautiful photography by Daniel Krieger, making a great addition to the coffee table or home bar bookshelf.

During the session, attendees enjoyed a casual Q & A with Robert while sipping old fashioneds. A few of the recipes in the book made their way to tables as well. The absinthe old fashioned was particularly delicious. To enter for a chance to win a signed copy of The Old Fashioned with all the history and recipes, simply fill out the entry form found below. Robert Siminson actively shares his cocktail-fueled travel adventures on Twitter and Instagram, so be sure to follow him and let him know that The Humble Garnish sent you his way. Cheers!

I created The Humble Garnish because I’m passionate about cocktails. Occasionally, I am provided with products for review or other perks. Many product links on this site are affiliate links that give me a very small kickback, and costs the buyer nothing extra. For example, as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases after a link leading to Amazon is clicked. Other links may earn me affiliate commissions as well. This helps offset the cost of creating content for the site – things like camera gear, software, alcohol, glassware. I have at times accepted and at other times declined free products. I promote what I love and use, and rarely will write about a product that I don’t appreciate or own. If I don’t like a product or service, I often simply choose not to write about it.
