National Daiquiri Day

The third featured rum cocktail of the month is the classic daiquiri because today is National Daiquiri Day. The daiquiri is one of those classic and also foundational cocktails with a recipe so simple that any cocktail aficionado should know how to make one. Forget eccentric flavors and blended drinks today. This daiquiri is about white rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup.

The daiquiri was invented by American mining engineer, Jennings Cox, and saw a rise in popularity in the 1940s due to the ease of importing rum. It’s known to have been a favorite of Ernest Hemingway and President John F. Kennedy, so kick back, relax, and enjoy one of the simplest classic cocktails – the daiquiri.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces white rum
  • ¾ ounce lime juice
  • ¾ ounce simple syrup

Instructions

  • Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled.
  • Double strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a lime wheel.
