Strawberry Cachaça Shake

Cachaça isn’t the most well-known sugarcane spirit. Pretty much every other style of rum is more well-known. If you’ve heard of it, chances are it’s because you’ve had it in the national drink of Brazil, the caipirinha. Production of cachaça is similar to that of rhum agricole in that it’s made with fresh-pressed cane juice. This creates a clean, crisp, vegetal flavor that’s not present in other rums.

Some cachaça is aged, while others may only undergo a short barrel-aging period. Leblon cachaça is a personal go-to, and after production, it undergoes aging in vintage XO Cognac casks for up to 6 months. I also highly recommend Avuá, which is a much more artisan product.

Novo Fogo is also a reputable producer that makes an extensive lineup of cachaça which includes batches finished in teak, zebra wood, and single barrel releases just to name a few.

The Strawberry Cachaça Shake cocktail is a refreshing combination of cachaça, lime, simple syrup, strawberry and Peychaud’s bitters, created by Farideh Sadeghin at Milk & Honey. It’s basically a daiquiri riff with cachaça as the rum, and the addition of bitters and strawberry.

Sidenote, if you ever visit Milk & Honey, be sure to note their very respectable rules (posted below)!

Cheers!
