Chai Concentrate

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 inches ginger root (sliced)
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 8 whole black peppercorns
  • slice licorice root
  • 4 sticks cinnamon
  • 3 whole allspice berries
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 1 vanilla bean (sliced down the middle)
  • ¼ teaspoon whole coriander
  • teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  • With the exception of the tea, bring all ingredients to a boil, then reduce to medium low heat. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Add tea and allow to steep for 5 minutes.
  • Strain liquid and allow to cool to room temperature.
  • Combine chai concentrate with heavy cream, milk, or water in a 1:1 ratio. Optionally, add sugar or simple syrup.

Notes

Will keep approximately one week in refrigerator.
