It’s just me, and I’m like you.

Since launching this site 5 years ago, it has continually evolved and the focus has been refined. Now I need your input.

The articles I write are a reflection of my interests at that particular time. I constantly turn down opportunities from brands offering free products because I only want to share articles about the people and products that I truly care about. Don’t worry–I don’t need money from you to continue writing. I write because I enjoy it. (However, I do make a small commission when you make purchases through Amazon links on this site.)

In addition to the content being a reflection of my interests, it’s also a reflection of how much available time I have. My main gig is commercial video production and photography, and this year has been a whirlwind of projects with clients including NASA, The Pioneer Woman, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America, to name a few.    As a freelancer, this often leaves little time to focus on creating quality content for The Humble Garnish, but I’m back at it!

Here is what you can expect from The Humble Garnish moving forward.

  • More Personal – I used to think I needed to make it seem like The Humble Garnish was a big site with a team of writers and photographers. It’s just me, and I’m just like you. Moving forward, articles will be more conversational. You can still expect long-form polished pieces, but I’ll also be doing some smaller posts that cut to the chase. I may also share some content from other people that I’m enjoying, like this week’s podcast episode of Proof, The True Cost of Mezcal.
  • More Top-Tier Interviews – Sharing cocktail recipes is great and all, but I’ve had the honor of interviewing and judging cocktail contests with some of the titans of the industry. We’re talking David Wondrich, Noah Rothbaum, Robert Simonson, Paul Clarke… I will continue to seek out interesting people to interview.
  • Local Tulsa Section – I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and we have an incredible food and drink scene. I do not want to be the critic that reviews local establishments. However, I’ll start sharing more Tulsa-centric content. Actually, it’s a dedicated tab that is currently live on the site.

Below is a short list of recent and upcoming articles.

Recent Articles

  • Robert Simonson Interview – I had the honor of interviewing Simonson when he was in Tulsa to judge the Philbrook’s MIX cocktail competition. I also hosted a Q&A at Magic City Books, discussing his latest book, The Martini.
  • Purely Patagonian – My interview with the master distiller of TRÄ•KÁL. If you like unique spirits, you won’t want to miss this interview.
  • Tonic Syrups – I updated this post last week with a new syrup from W&P Design. Check it out.

Upcoming Articles

  • Ice Molds – I have two new ice molds to add to my massive review. I just received one of them in the mail two days ago, so I need to test it, take photos, and write about it.
  • Bubbly Book Review – I received a pre-release copy of this book. It comes out on Tuesday, so I’m going to try to power through and get a quick review posted.
  • Cachaça Review – I received two samples from a brand I’m not familiar with. One bottling is aged in a very unique wood. Expect thoughts soon.
  • Small Stuff – I recently picked up some of the Casamara Club Amaro soft drink and some of Fever Tree’s Smoky Ginger Ale. I’m loving the Casamara and have yet to crack open the ginger ale.

That sums it up. Feel free to leave a note in the comments with any ideas or suggestions.

Cheers!
– Andrew

SUZE is known for its dry, bitter, gentian-heavy flavor profile, but this cocktail is surprisingly bright and refreshing. Yellow Chartreuse and mint’s herbal notes play well with SUZE, and come together in this drink to make a refreshing tipple that’s perfect for spring or summer.
